Wrong Way Accident Causes Death of Canyon High Grad
A tragic event recently unfolded in the city of New Braunfels. According to a report from foxsanantonio.com, the driver of a GMC 2500 truck was going the wrong way on FM 306 when he collided with five different cars. The driver of the fifth car was an 18-year-old woman and graduate of Canyon High School. The truck driver struck her car last, causing it to burst into flames. The passenger of that car was able to get out of the vehicle but the driver, was unable to escape.
It is not clear whether alcohol was a factor in the collision. According to DPS, the driver of the truck has not been charged with a crime but the accident is still under investigation.Determining Fault in Car Accidents
When car accidents occur, it may be due to the carelessness of one, both, or several drivers. External conditions such as bad weather, poor road construction, debris in the road, and animals and pedestrians crossing can also play a part in determining fault. When someone is injured in an accident because of someone else’s negligence, their attorney needs to prove up fault against the other driver. In many cases, insurance companies vigorously fight to avoid having fault placed on their insured driver, and thus avoid having to pay the injured party.Wrong Way Accidents are Unique
Because of their rarity, wrong way accidents are distinctive. Depending on the circumstances surrounding the collision, apportioning fault may be more straightforward than other types of accidents. An experienced motor vehicle accident attorney will obtain police accident reports, hire investigators to evaluate the scene of the accident, and use all other available evidence to help determine fault and prove up their client’s case. If a police report and witnesses show that the wrong-way driver is clearly at fault, it can greatly bolster the strength of the injured drivers case.Know Your Rights and Options
If you are hurt in any type of auto accident, it’s important to know your rights and available remedies. Insurance companies often try to offer low settlements (to avoid being sued) when people experience moments of vulnerability. An experienced personal injury attorney can make sure you don’t fall victim to their traps. If you or a loved one has been injured, contact an attorney for guidance.
